MEDIATION

Mediation is a way to resolve conflicts without going to court. The process requires both parties to actively work towards a final resolution. The idea behind mediation is that the parties will be more likely to abide by an agreement if they helped create it. Mediation is a good way for parties to insure that all of their specific concerns are addressed in a way that makes sense for both of them. While litigation is unpredictable, mediation gives you control over the outcome.

Mediation can be used in divorce, custody, support, or any other matter. The time that it takes will depend on a number of factors. It can be done in one session, or in many sessions. The parties control the pace and the result.

MK is a trained mediator, having completed programs accredited by the Association for Conflict Resolution. She has both general mediation training, and specific training in the areas of divorce and custody.

While MK can help you to resolve your case by mediation, you should know that when an attorney serves as a mediator, they cannot represent either party. And while the mediator can advise you generally about the law, they cannot provide you with any specific legal advice, or tell you what to do or what is in your best interest. The mediator must remain neutral. Therefore, you should still consult with an attorney who can advise you, and who can file any necessary pleadings in court.

Because she is a mediator herself, MK is well-suited to represent your legal interests if you have already gone through the mediation process elsewhere. If you have reached a resolution, MK can represent you in court to make sure that your agreement is honored properly under the law
